MICHAEL BREWER was born on April 14th, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The oldest of four children, he performed on the radio at age four. He was a singing drummer in a rock and roll band in high school, along with fellow band mate and guitarist Jesse Ed Davis. In 1960 he sold his drums and bought his first guitar ( A Martin D-18. The same guitar heard on six "Brewer & Shipley" albums). After graduating high school in 1962, he traveled the folk circuit performing in coffee houses from coast to coast, and began writing songs. He met Tom Shipley in 1964 at The Blind Owl coffee house in Kent, Ohio, but they wouldn't become a team for a few more years.

Michael “Thorny” Brewer is an active pilot with United Airlines, and is also currently serving in the United States Air Force Reserve as an F-15E Instructor Pilot. He has over 25 years of flying experience; accumulating over 6,000 hours in over 50 types of general aviation, transport, and military aircraft with over 2,000 hours in fighter jets.
Brewer is a 2005 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Arizona and commissioned from Officer Training School, Maxwell AFB, Alabama in 2010. He attended Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, Oklahoma. After completing Pilot Training as a Distinguished Graduate, recipient of the AETC Commander’s Trophy, and Flying Training Award in 2012, Brewer served as an F-15E Strike Eagle pilot in multiple assignments. He has more than 2,000 hours in the F-15E and F-16, including more than 315 combat hours over Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. Charles Michael Brewer (April 14, 1944 – December 17, 2024) was an American musician. He and Tom Shipley were the music duo Brewer & Shipley.
Brewer formed a duo in Los Angeles during early 1966 named Mastin & Brewer with singer/songwriter Tom Mastin.[1] The group recruited drummer Billy Mundi and bass guitar player Jim Fielder for live performances, opening for The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield during spring 1966. When Mastin left during sessions for an album, Brewer enlisted his brother Keith and the pair recorded a lone single 45 for Columbia Records, "Need You", backed by "Rainbow" (written by Tom Mastin and Brewer before the former's departure). Mundi became employed with The Lamp of Childhood and then The Mothers of Invention while Fielder had also joined The Mothers of Invention (and later Buffalo Springfield and Blood, Sweat & Tears).
