Who is Kieron Williamson?

Kieron Williamson first began drawing when he was five after being given a sketchbook during a family holiday to Cornwall in 2008.

He was inspired by the boats and the scenery and as the holiday progressed, he began to add backgrounds, scenery, hills and houses.

When the family returned to their home in Holt, Norfolk, his parents sought the help of local artists to talk to Kieron as his interest in learning artistic techniques progressed.

Unsatisfied with poster paints, he tried out watercolour, acrylics, oils and pastels.

Few artists ever merit a biography or achieve  a ‘retrospective’ exhibition in their honour. Fewer still can boast a waiting list of more than 6,500 people around the world. For a nine-year-old boy, such a level of success must be unprecedented.

Kieron Williamson has become used to tags such as ‘Mini Monet’ and ‘the next Picasso’ by now, and the attention barely seems to have disturbed his remarkable progress since he started painting five years ago.

At an exhibition in Holt, Norfolk, last year, all 33 of his paintings sold within minutes, earning £100,000. In July there will be an even bigger exhibition.

Kieron Williamson (born 4 August 2002) is a watercolour artist from Holt, Norfolk in England. His paintings and ability by the age of six have caused considerable interest in the UK media and are notable for his advanced use of perspective and shading.

He has been described as a prodigy, and at his second exhibition in 2009, his paintings sold out in 14 minutes, raising a total of £18,200 for 16 paintings. A subsequent exhibition in Holt in July 2010 saw his paintings all sold within 30 minutes, at a total value of £150,000.

The following week, on Friday, 6 August 2010, Williamson revealed on the BBC Norfolk website some of his latest paintings that would be exhibited in 2011.





At the beginning of November 2010 the family revealed to the Eastern Daily Press that they might re-locate to Cornwall to further Kieron's painting, but in the event the family bought a new home at Ludham, east of Norwich in Kieron's name, with the proceeds of his art sales.
