Yasuchika Hasegawa

Yasuchika Hasegawa was been Chairman and CEO of Takeda Pharmaceutical since 2009 and the Keizai Doyukai (Japanese association of CEOs). He was chairman of the Asia-Pacific group of the Trilateral Commission.

Background

Yasuchika was born in Nagato in June 1946. After graduating from high school in Fukuoka, he was admitted to Waseda University. He graduated in 1970 in political economy.

Career

He was hired at the end of the university by Takeda Pharmaceuticals in positions, successively, of human resources, management, and international relations.

In 1986 he became president of the German branch of Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Two years later he became President of Takeda Pharmaceutical Europe. In June 2003, he was appointed director of the company. Once president, he encourages a policy of diversification of the company's recruitment, and promotes the acquisition of foreign companies. It launches waves of recruitment of foreign executives of rival companies, benefiting from higher salaries.

Takeda Announces Appointment of Christophe Weber as Chief Executive Officer

Osaka, Japan, March 4, 2015 -- Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited today announced that its Board of Directors decided to promote Christophe Weber, Representative Director, President & Chief Operating Officer (COO), to Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2015. Yasuchika Hasegawa, Representative Director, Chairman of the Board & CEO, will assume the position of Representative Director, Chairman of the Board.

The appointment is the result of a transparent and objective decision-making process endorsed by the Nomination Committee, which has been established as an advisory body to the Board of Directors and whose chairperson is an Outside Director. It has been also decided that the position of COO will no longer exist effective April 1, 2015.

Yasuchika Hasegawa has been with the Takeda Pharmaceutical company since 1970, including three years in Germany and ten years in the United States as Vice President and then President of TAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Chicago. He joined Takeda’s Board of Directors in 1999, became President in 2003, Chief Executive Officer in 2009, Chairman in 2014, and Corporate Counselor in 2017. Mr. Hasegawa was also Chairman of the Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives) from 2011 to April 2015, and a member of the Abe government’s Industrial Competitiveness Council since 2013. He graduated from Waseda University.
