Rajiv Takru appointed new Revenue Secretary

NEW DELHI: The Government today appointed senior bureaucrat and Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Takruas the new Revenue Secretaryin the Union Finance Ministry.

Takru, a 1979-batch officer of the Gujarat cadre, will take over the new position from April 1 after incumbent Sumit Bose retires on March 31.

In order to fill up the position vacated by Takru, the Appointments Committee of Cabinet(ACC) has also appointed 1980-batch Rajasthan cadre officer Gurdial Singh Sanduas the new Secretary of Financial Services. The officer is currently posted in his home state.

Apart from these two fresh appointments, the Government also made a temporary posting in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.

Operation Red Spider

Operation Red Spider was an anti-money laundering sting operation of an online magazine, Cobrapost. Cobrapost released video footage, recorded largely by hidden cameras, showing high-ranking officials and some employees of the top three Indian banks suggesting to an undercover reporter methods to launder money. The officials offered safe deposit lockers to stash away the black money, accounts that did not adhere to Reserve Bank of India guidelines, and 'benami' (false) accounts to facilitate the conversion of the black money and keep the depositor's identity a secret.
