He is the son of Flora Day and Walter Ray Allen, Sr. who both played semi-professional basketball.[2] His father was a master sergeant and mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and moved his family from base to base including in bases in England, Germany, Oklahoma, and Edwards Air Force Base in California. He attended Hillcrest High school in Dalzell, South Carolina, and the University of Connecticut (1993-1996). He was a 1996 NBA draft / Round#1 / Pick#5th overall / position: shooting guard.
